Goats Go To War: Kickstarter Project Aims To Keep A Programmer Housed And Fed

screen_level1It's hard out there for a goat. You're relegated to the background in many RPG games, chewing morosely while adventurers and soldiers light out for the darkened corners of the World, fighting dragons, the hellborn, and coprophagic demons. But now the goats are taking on the world's vilest enemy - the Nazis - and they mean business. GOATS vs NAZIS is an indie NES game by Jim Welch that should take about a year to finish. Welch is asking for $14,000 to help feed and clothe him while he works on the game (where the heck does he live?) and he's offering the game for free once he's done.

Xperia Ray makes US debut, goes unlocked for $425

Giving you a new opportunity to tell your favorite carrier exactly where it can stick that nasty two-year agreement, the unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has made its official debut in the United States. In partnership with NewEgg, the handset carries an MSRP of $425 (although it currently sells for $380), where shoppers may choose between gold, black, white and pink varieties. As carrier compatibility goes, the phone features quad-band GSM support, along with 3G capability over the 2100 / 1900 / 850MHz airwaves, which makes it best suited for AT&T in the US, or Bell, Rogers and Telus up north. The Xperia Ray packs an MSM8255 SoC -- which features a 1GHz CPU and an Adreno 205 GPU -- along with a 3.3-inch FWVGA display and Android 2.3. Of particular note, it also sports an 8.1 megapixel lens with an Exmor R sensor that's well-suited for low-light situations, along with an LED flash and the ability to record video at 720p. So, if you're mad as hell at two-year ordeals, here's a reason to not take it anymore. Howard Beale would be so very proud.

The Platform Wars: Will Music Bring Harmony or Discord?

Music Note Bokeh | Flickr - Photo Sharing!A digital music executive recently told me, ?The elephants are increasingly angry at each other.? I laughed, but quickly realized this was more than a cheeky metaphor. Hyper-competition among tech giants is shaking up the digital lives of consumers. And in an ironic twist of fate, music, an oft-maligned business in Silicon Valley, may set the tone and pick the winner(s). Music is one of the most fundamental features that can determine the success or failure of a technology platform (yes, as a CEO of a social music startup, I am extremely biased this belief). The platform wars are heating up fast: So how did we get here? And where will we go? Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon are juggernauts who thoroughly dominate their categories?search, hardware, social and commerce. But advances in mobile computing and growth in social are blurring the lines between their businesses and setting them on a collision course: Think: Fire vs. iPad, Google+ vs. Facebook, Spartan vs. iOS vs. Android, everyone?s app store vs. everyone else?s app store. While consumers may feel overwhelmed by the tech giants? competition for their digital mindshare?I certainly do?no company can vertically integrate your entire digital life. There will be big wins and devastating losses, and these will likely be related to the most core utilities of any platform: communications and media content.

Quora iPhone app puts answers to every question at your fingertips

Quora, the popular Q&A social networking site, has released their first iPhone app. Quora for iPhone allows users to ask and answer questions on the go. The iPhone app has kept the core of what makes Quora popular and easy to use, plus it has added some unique features.

The iPhone app offers a new feature called "Nearby." It's essentially location-based questions. You can browse questions based on areas from an embedded Google Map within the app. Nearby hones in on your current location, but if you want you can jump to another city our country and see specific questions for any area in the world.

Another welcome addition to the iPhone app: Push notifications, so when you ask a question you don't need to sit around and constantly check the app to see if it's been answered. Quora has also integrated its Shuffle feature into the iPhone app, allowing you to discover new content you might not normally seek out.

Quora for iPhone is available now in the App Store. It's a free download.
